Mandy the hilarious Queen!

Mandy proved to be the best female comedian in the country on Friday, 21 Oct 2016. She gave a stunning 45 minutes set!

Mandy on stage
Her opening sequence was creative, admirable and new! She told a hilarious story of how she came to Mbabane through a mix of her voice and music tracks. The tracks included Sands’s Vuma, Ncandweni and Spirit Of Praise’s Khulul’ugcobo being the last track where she said, “Ngako ke ngiyacela Nkhosi kutsi namuhla … Khulul’gcobo!”

This is what the stage looked like.
That opening sequence alone made me forget that the show started 1hour 30 minutes late. What’s shocking is that they connected the sound and lights after 7:05pm, the time the show was scheduled to start. Nothing signified that there was a show happening inside the theatre club. No ushers, no signage, not even someone checking if we had tickets to the show. I also think they would have done something about the stage décor. So many times I wanted to leave but I figured Mandy would be mad at me and I was there already so I would rather sit and endure the torture of dealing with lame pick up lines from some of the guys who had come for the show.

Anyway, seeing Mandy give that performance I forgot all that and when she took to stage I just stood up and clapped my hands so hard they went dry. She looked beautiful in a blue jump suit and her confidence! Thiqo wase George Gosh! Her jokes were creative, simple enough to understand and she interacted with the crowd. She was flowing and I got worried, how will she end her set?

Taken after the show, Mandy, Mdura and I.

As if she heard my thought, after a joke about the Prime Minister, which I cannot repeat, lol, she bowed out. There is nothing like ending a set while people are still enjoying and not expecting it. Another standing ovation and I was emotional. So proud of her and I doubt anyone will understand how I felt. I even hugged her twice and I’m sure she thought I was crazy.

It is rare for me to see talent and believe in it. The fact that she manages her brand alone just makes things extra special for her. She is her own manager, PRO, stylist and the talent itself. She is an all round individual and I wish her nothing but the best in her career.

Catch her perform at Spring Comedy Nights this Friday, 28 October 2016 at the Convention Centre.
