Celebrating our Swazi Woman: Comedian Mandy
Since its woman month in South Africa and they are celebrating their woman, I decided to celebrate 2 young woman in Swaziland who are doing extra ordinary in male dominated industries.
She owns the stage! |
#1 - The 22 year old Mandy Ginindza is a Public Relations Student at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology. She is no ordinary young lady as she has set herself apart from others by being the 1st female comedian in Swaziland.
I always tell her that I support her dream and I am such a groupie! She is amazing and whenever she in on stage, she shines.
Hi Mandy! Thanks for taking this interview. As I always tell you I'm such a groupie!
Hey Bertha you welcome and hahaha you no groupie you more like a sister to me. ( Ah!
She just family zoned me, I don't know whether to laugh or cry!)
You are the only female comedian in Swaziland since the beginning of time. How does that make you feel?
Its overwhelming hey I cannot lie. But I love everything about it. Putting smiles on
peoples faces makes me so happy.
Mandy's mom should not worry about umkhwenyana if she meets such people. Mandy with eMtee. |
You won't believe it but when I entered the industry I just did it for fun. It started with acting funny parts in drama classes at school... so I thought to myself, "I can do this, I can stand in front of people and talk a lot of nonsense and make people laugh." My mom thought its crazy, she was against the idea at first because she thought I will not get her a mkhwenyane out of this craziness.
Hahaha! Now that you are in the industry, how are you treated as an artist and a woman?
😁 People think I have a loose screw, some guy even said I am not mentally capped but I am Mandycapped... but overall I love the respect we getting for our art.

Women are shy hey, so it's hard to say they can take over this industry. (I disagree with her on this one. She is already taking over!)
You are now a role model to young girls who would like to take your path, what would you advice them to do in order to achieve such a status?
They should not fear the stage. Comedy pays well. If they have jokes they should write them down and try to rehearse them. I can personally help them too.
How awesome is that! I think I will be taking comedy classes from her. If you were to be the minister of arts, what would you do to develop the girl child, woman empowerment and woman everything (LOL)?
Yo, that is a hard one but first of all if I was a minister I would celebrate for a whole month that I am a minister....then the art growing part I would encourage more women shows....and sometimes women empowerment conferences. (Will she celebrate by laughing for the whole month? #JustThinking)
You are a full time student and full time comedian. How do you juggle everything?
My course comes with talking, comedy comes with talking a lot of nonsense so it's not so hard shame.
What's one joke you have heard or created that motivated woman or highlighted woman's power?
I wouldn't say its empowering women but I made a joke about this exceptional woman called Nothando Hlophe. She is so holy Shem her music is so uplifting but......but what does she say when being chased by dogs? Does she say "voetsek" or she runs down the street saying "khulul'ugcobo lwakhoooo nkhosi esimeni sami lengbhekene naso"? (hahhahahahaaha!!)
Thanks dear, I wish I could tell you a joke to end this chat. Stay queening 👑👑 as the one and only female comedian in Swaziland! I'm proud of you!
Thanks Ms B.
